Volunteer of the Quarter
Helen Haines was elected Volunteer of the Quarter for the last three months of 2011 by the other volunteers at Northern Columbia Community and Cultural Center (N4Cs). Helen has acted as a substitute instructor for the N4Cs Sit ‘N Fit Program for many months. When first asked to help run the class she was hesitant because she thought she would not be able to do it properly. But Helen has not only instructed the class proficiently, she has also implemented new exercises into the program. She has helped the Sit ‘N Fit participants reach their personal goals and enjoy the class tremendously.
Helen first came to Benton after marrying John Haines almost 37 years ago. John and Helen have one daughter, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She feels lucky to have all her family live locally.
She retired after thirty-five years from Milco Industries in Bloomsburg about ten years ago, although she still does work for the company’s charitable foundation. Helen is a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, local Masonic organizations. She is also an active member of the Waller United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and acting as Treasurer. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, puzzles and needle work.
The work she has done recently in the various organizations has made her more confident and outgoing. She says the people at N4Cs are a wonderful group.
Congratulations Helen Haines and thank you for your dedication to the Community Center. N4Cs is run primarily by a large group of volunteers, without whom we could not function so efficiently. We thank every one of them.
