N4Cs has entered an exciting phase of its short life. With the guidance of Unger Consulting Services, N4Cs is developing a strategic plan to ensure its long-term growth. Janet Unger, president of Unger Consulting Services, has 20 years experience as an independent consultant serving non-profit organizations. She, and her colleague, Ann M. McNally, have undertaken the multi-month project to guide N4Cs' board, committee chairs, and members through the planning process.
The project consists of a multi-pronged approach starting with a large data-collection effort.
-- Electronic surveys were made available to N4Cs' Members and Non-Members soliciting opinions and comments;
-- Each board member was asked for their comments on governance, management issues and suggestions for change;
-- During the first weekend of February Janet and Ann conducted six fous groups with various community groups asking for opinions and recommendations. These focus groups consisted of: Community Leaders, Senior Citizens, Families with Children, Donors, Former Members, and Students;
-- Benton Mayor Jan Swan was interviewed;
-- N4Cs' Committee Chairs were also asked to complete strategic assessment forms relating to each of the programs sponsored by N4Cs, committee charters, financial and competitive positions, development and marketing processes, and facilities' status.
The second phase consists of an analysis of all the data collected. This will be followed by a meeting among the consultants, the board, and committee chairs to discuss the results of the data analysis and to identify a vision to go forward.
Finally, based on the outcome of the data analysis and meeting, the consulting team will outline options and recommendations for future program, facility, operational and governance scenarios for the Center to consider with related space needs and cost implications.
