I. YOGA FOR HEALTH; FROM THE GROUND UP
September 8 through September 29, 2008
This 4-week yoga workshop will take a close look at the lowly foot. The practice of yoga is about awareness and recognizing interconnectedness. The best place to start in the physical sense is with our foundation - our feet. How our feet contact the ground will influence our ankles, knees, hips, pelvis and everything on up to the head! Balance and grace require supple feet. We'll learn special exercises for the feet (and legs and hips), and practice how to feel more stable in the yoga postures.
II. YOGA FOR HEALTH: ENERGIZE AND STRENGTHEN - THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR
October 13 through November 3, 2008
Yoga warrior postures proclaim numerous benefits: They strengthen and stretch the legs and ankles, open the groins and hips, relieve back aches, reverse flat feet, stimulate abdominal organs, help to open the chest and shoulders, and increase energy and stamina. This 4-week workshop will focus on the three warrior postures and their many benefits.
III. YOGA FOR HEALTH; FOCUS ON WINTER-WEATHER MOVES
January 26 - February 16, 2009

IV. YOGA FOR HEALTH: BETTER BREATHING WITH YOGA

MODIFIED YOGA - Thursday 10-11AM - Instructor- Joanne Smith
Yoga is the art of stretching, breathing, and placing your body in poses (called asana) to strengthen and tone your muscles. Yoga is gentle on the body, not creating the muscle cramping that working with weights can, but subtle enough to make a remarkable difference in your strength and flexibility.
Modified Yoga is based on the classical body positions but instead is done seated and/or using the support of a chair, wall, or cane. The gentle and controlled movements lubricate the joints and help one gain greater flexibility. The various breathing techniques strengthen the lungs, and help coordinate the breath to create ease with movement. Become one with your body and learn techniques to spread your wings in this gentle and relaxing class. Wear sneakers. Uses Center chairs. Meet in Aerobics room. Sign up and pay a monthly rate based on $4.00 per class for Members, and $6.00 per class for Non-members. (Minimum- 4)
